Most people need to get a new car battery every 3 to 5 years. You can get the battery replaced at your Porsche center, and you can also visit the center to have your battery’s health checked periodically throughout its life. Always be on the lookout for signs that you need to get your battery replaced, as replacing the battery before it completely dies will stop you from being stranded at a really inconvenient time.

1. Dim Lights

Have you noticed that your headlights seem to be dimmer than usual? It may be because the bulbs are getting ready to burn out, but your battery could also be the reason your headlights aren’t lighting up as much of the road as they used to. When your battery doesn’t have sufficient power to supply to all the components of your vehicle, then sometimes, the headlights suffer. Other lights in your car may suffer also, such as the lights on your dashboard.

2. Flickering Lights

Have any of the lights in your car been flickering lately? This can be a sign that there’s a problem with your electrical system. Often, the battery is the culprit, but your alternator may be faulty instead. A faulty alternator can leave the battery without enough power to keep all of your vehicle’s lights working well.

3. Slow Accessories

Is your infotainment system acting slow like an old, outdated phone? This usually isn’t because the technology is old and is breaking down. It’s often caused by a problem with the battery. Other accessories in the car may be slow, too, like your power windows or your heated seats.

4. Clicking and Not Starting

Are you unable to start your car at all? If all you hear is a clicking sound when you turn the key or push the button to start the car, but the engine doesn’t turn over, then you most likely have a bad battery or alternator. If you can jumpstart the car, and that allows you to get back on the road, then your battery is typically the problem.

5. Damaged Battery

Is there a lot of blue or white powder on your battery’s terminals? This is corrosion, and a small amount may be normal, but a large amount isn’t. You need to get your battery’s health checked if you see this substance. Your battery may also swell up or develop cracks and bulges when it’s damaged. A battery with this kind of damage can’t be saved and must be replaced.

If you’ve noticed even one of the signs above, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Porsche center. Come by Harris Porsche in Baton Rouge, LA for a battery replacement.
